KENNETH BILLINGTON

Kenneth A. Billington was born June 24, 1905, son of the late Arthur and Helen Evans Billington. He had two sisters Thelma and Dorothy and a brother Stanley. In Rye his family lived at 5 School Street and were members of the Rye Presbyterian Church. Kenneth was a graduate of Rye schools.

He married Ruth R Roane on June 28, 1928, in Irvington, New York. They had two children during their marriage.

Kenneth served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Lieut. Kenneth A. Billington Promoted to Rank of Captain
Word has been received by Mrs. Kenneth A. Billington, of 224 Purchase Street, that her husband, Lieut. Kenneth A. Billington, was just recently promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Billington received his commission in December 1942 and for a short time was stationed at the Holabird Ordnance Depot in Baltimore, and from there was transferred to his present post at the Umatilla Ordnance Depot in Hermiston, Ore. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Billington of Rye, and before entering the service was associated with his father in Billington Motor Company.

After the war Kenneth returned to the family business and retired in 1966 from the presidency of Billington Motor Co., founded in Rye in 1914 by his father. He had been active in the community, having organized the civil defense organization; served as a member of the Harrison Zoning Board of Appeals for 14 years.

He was president of the Rye Visiting Nurse Association and was instrumental in founding its scholarship fund. Kenneth was a past president of the Rye-Harrison Rotary Club; a member of the Rye Fish & Game Club; a member of Mamaro Lodge in Port Chester; and a member of the Rye Presbyterian Church.

Kenneth A. Billington, 66, of Park Drive South, died Thursday march 23, 1972 at Hillcrest Hospital in Pittsfield, Mass., after a two week illness.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, the former Ruth Roane, of the home address; a daughter, Mrs. John Cronin of Scarsdale; a son, Ken of New York City; three grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Sydney McBride of Rye and Mrs. John P. Cox of Stamford. Conn

Funeral services were held at the Hill Funeral Home
